Simply loosen the strap
Place it over the lid with the lip facing the direction you'd like to twist
Pull the strap tail to tighten (no need to hold on to the strap)
Push the handle away from you
Simply loosen the strap
Place it over the lid with the lip facing the direction you'd like to twist
It works best if the handle is at approximately a 10 o'clock angle
Pull the strap tail to tighten (no need to hold on to the strap)
Pull the handle towards you
The strap can be used one-handed, provided you have something to hold the jar in place e.g. a belly clamp
Hold the strap tail and push the handle towards the lid until it is snug
You can now let go of the strap, and push the handle away from you
To release the lid, simply pull back on the handle
You may be wondering whether you need to hold the strap or lock it in somehow? The answer is NO
Once you've placed the strap around the lid and tightened it from the other end, the lip pushes the strap against the lid creating an easy to use locking mechanism
If you still find yourself wanting to hold on to the strap, the best way to do so is to:
tighten it around the lid as usual
fold the tail back over the handle
now you can easily hold the handle and the strap
Place the lip of the handle under the rim
Use the handle to lever it open
Pull the strap all the way back
Use the back of the handle to pop off the bottle cap
What if you need to open something that isn't open-ended e.g. a pipe?
You can easily unthread the strap from the handle
Wrap it around the pipe
Thread it back through the handle
Tighten & pull

I only received this item in the post today and I knew straight away what I wanted to use it on. This pot of garlic seems to lock itself closed every time. I purposely don’t do it back up tight yet when I go to open it I have to use a tea towel to stop my hands from slipping! This tool made complete ease of the job with next to no effort. It’s a decent size it can store in with the knife and forks in the draw. It can open bottles and even on tins like a treacle tin. It’s very simple to use and is a great extra to have in the house! I’d recommend this to anyone who doesn’t wish to struggle to open jars again.

When I first saw this adjustable strap made by the Lid & Leverage company I watched their video thinking what a good idea to produce something that helps the elderly and those like myself with arthritic hand joints. So as soon as it arrived I gave it a try and for such a simple tool I’m amazed at how easily tight lids can be removed. I then tried lifting the lid off a golden syrup tin which it opens quickly and easily, as it does with all types of lids on items such as paint tins. The tool is made of high quality webbing made stronger by having rubber woven into it and has been made to be used in either hand. This is an amazing tool that I’m finding a great help in my kitchen by opening jars and tins I couldn’t have managed before.

I love my Lid & Leverage opener! It’s so helpful for many things but it’s getting used in my house mostly to open my smoothie blender which gets annoyingly stuck solid quite often and of course on stubborn jam jars. I also recently managed to sprain my right hand so I’m glad I’ve got this little gem at the ready for when I need it. I love the funky colours – I went for the pink! Customer service is excellent too – very responsive and helpful.

As I’ve got older my hand and wrist strength has decreased to the extent I often have to put an elastic band around the top of jars, such as honey and jams, because I just don’t have the strength to open them. I wondered if I would be able to figure out how this device works, but it’s fairly straightforward – so long as you follow the instructions – point the “lip” in the direction you want to twist. It works on a remarkable variety of sizes from toothpaste tube lids upwards and is fine for both right and left handed users. It can also be used for lifting caps off bottles, and lids off tins – e.g. golden syrup or paint tins and when not in use, the dangling strap can be tucked up and away – then stored by hanging from the strap. I can’t fault it, but for the price it was originally advertised at (£22) I found it expensive.

This is definitely the best bundle of gadgets to aid someone with arthritis. I was having difficulty in even opening the top of the milk carton and the adjustable strap has made my life much easier now. With little effort, I can open all stupidly lidded items. All in all worth every penny, recommended.

Absolutely genius yet simple idea and saves trying to find a rubber band (or in my case asking my husband to open jars). Can even be used on taps. Simple to use. Loop the product over what it is you’re trying to ease push the metal middle part to tighten the slack. Push like a lever towards the direction you’re trying to open and voila it opens effortlessly. Doesn’t need any strain or effort it’s amazing. Bought my parents one as it’s such a handy gadget for the kitchen drawer. No more kids using teeth to open a bottle lid!!!

This tool is a simple design, yet it’s very effective in use. This will take off all kinds of tops and lids – meaning anything from the size of a pen cap up to the lid on a large jar of pickled onions. You could even use one of these to remove an oil filter on a car engine. I do like that the handle is light, yet made of sturdy thick steel, and incorporates a bottle opener at one end, and a curved lip on the other end to prise off the lids on paint tins etc. The nylon strap has rubber woven into the webbing, which provides a really good, safe grip on the surface of the lid or cap you are removing. It’s worth mentioning that this very versatile tool can be used by right or left-handed people. Whether you have dexterity issues or not, this is one of those tools that you will definitely come to use regularly in your kitchen – so no more going blue in the face as you grunt and squirm in an effort to remove that tight lid off a jam jar. If you want to avoid that indignity, and make life a lot easier for yourself, then get one of these adjustable strap openers from Lid & Leverage. They’re not cheap, but they are made to a high standard and should last you a lifetime. I’m very impressed with mine, so I have no hesitation at all in recommending this product to you.

UPDATE: Been using this for a bit now, how handy this is to have. I look forward to getting the device out. I literally get a little bit excited when there’s a stuck item. It won’t for everything, but it’s great! Works like a charm. You can slide the strap out completely (shown in photo) as well to get around larger obstacles which I had to do when tightening up a monitor stand adjustment. It has a very large variation in size ability due to the strap method. Simple, but helpful.10-year guarantee on the strap. Lifetime on the handle. Says to visit the website for terms, which I haven’t, but if they make good on that – then even if it’s around £22 as another reviewer mentioned then it’s probably worth it. Personally, I love it – and will be one of those “oooh, pass me the device” devices. That thing you wish you had to undo or tighten something. This is that thing. Just hope it lasts – and I have yet to test it on anything really robust – but it’s worked on everything I have so far. Easy five stars from me.

love the funky colours – I went for the pink! I had to untwist a long steel pole which was smooth. Now I’ve got pretty strong hands and I couldn’t budge it. This is just what I needed, you can wrap the rubber strap around quite a sizeable thing. Connect it to the handle and adds a lot of leverage to your grip. Untwisted it a treat. Around the house, it will open and close almost anything from Tap shrouds to hose fittings and even use it in the garage, or the pond or just when you need that extra grip ..ideal gift for the person that has everything

This has turned out to be an excellent tool around the kitchen especially more so for my wife who suffers from arthritis in her hands. This is such a simple device that can tighten or untighten the large majority of bottle tops, jar lids and can even take the lids of paint, syrup and treacle tins, in fact anything of that sort. Pulling the strapping all the way through until it just disappears into the steel body will reveal a bottle top opener. One thing I did notice and although not the fault of the product, I found that jars that I had stored in the fridge and tended to be wet, would make the webbing slip. That being said, taking a second to dry off any lids will help with the removal. This device will cope with any size of lid or whatever type of top you intend to unscrew, even something as small as a toothpaste lid is no problem to this product. Made from high quality webbing, the strapping has been interwoven with rubber giving it just the right amount of stretch. In summary, this is a great and extremely practical product that, given the quality of its build, should be around your kitchen for a long time to come. The device is possibly just a tad on the expensive side but, as I’ve said, great quality.

This 3 in 1 tool is very handy to have in the kitchen or in the shed, it is small and easy to put away. The tool uses the strap to give friction to lids and the steel handle give the leverage to open any stubborn lids. It is also a bottle opener and a lid pry tool. Tried this on a new bottle of gherkins which I could not open with my bare hands not even with a wet cloth. The strap initially kept slipping as I wasn’t tightening it enough and with the tongue facing the wrong direction! Once I worked it out and having everything in the right direction it opens pretty quickly and easily. Being an adjustable strap, it can open lid of any sizes and shapes, this is very versatile. The price is a little expensive for the material you get, but the design and the durability make up the all the value for it.

If a jar wouldn’t open, I had a couple of tricks up my sleeve. One was to tap the bottom of the jar with your elbow. Helped on low pressure jars. The other one was to use a thin knife or fork and stick it in the gap between the jar and the lid. It delivered air hence reducing pressure. The result was an open jar and…often some bent cutlery. The biggest satisfaction is when you open the jar with just your bare hands. But when that’s not going too well and you’re fed up with damaged cutlery, this little device is a Godsend. It’s simple and genius, and I love these ones. You have the black, solid metal, wrench style handle and a rather strange looking in comparison, pink rubberized strap. My main doubt was that the strap would keep sliding around the edge of the lid. But to my surprise, it’s got a superb grip (best to try on a dry lid). The way it works is super simple. You tie the strap around the edge of the lid, tighten it so the angled part of the handle is resting on the strap, and you push it towards the tip of the angled end. It opens everything that twists. Diameter is irrelevant – you just loosen or tighten the strap (there’s plenty to use). On top you can use the angled tip as a leverage to open tin cans with lids. And the other side of the handle is a bottle opener. What a treat this item is. The back of the packaging has a scan code to view the variety of uses for this opener. You can also visit the webpage for more info. The price is a quite staggering £22. It is a lot I know. But the idea, the materials and the simplicity of use is second to none. I’d like it to be cheaper, but I appreciate the above. So 5 stars from me. Thank you for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.

Wow! This little kitchen aid is simply brilliant! It does exactly what it says and makes opening tougher jars, bottles and other items with twist off lids a complete doddle. Upon first receiving this I was a little daunted by its larger size and, if I am being honest, I had doubts it would work but I am happy to admit I was completely wrong. The manufacturers haven’t scrimped on build quality and it seems very well put together and highly sturdy and robust. It’s super easy to use too. You simply adjust the large webbing band element to the correct size for the product you wish to open and slip it around the circumference of the lid. The webbing has rubber woven in so it’s nice and grippy. Tighten it, take hold of the steel handle and then give it a twist. And voila! You still need to give it a little oomph, especially if the lid is almost nailed on but it does make opening things a lot easier and more simple. I personally do not have issues opening jars and bottles etc. but I can truly see the benefit of using this for those that do. It can be used by both right and left handed individuals too. As a bit of a bonus, this device also has a bottle opener and a separate paint pot type opener designed and purpose built into the steel handle piece. That’s a particularly welcome addition and adds further value. My one and only slight criticism would be the price. At £22 (at time of review) it’s fairly costly at first glance. To be fair though, when you balance out the longevity and lifetime usage of this, and it should last a good long time based on construction quality, then I think it weighs out there price to be more than reasonable. Overall it’s a great kitchen aid that has been both well thought out, and well made. I therefore would be more than happy to recommend this to anyone.

At time of review this product is currently price at £22. I was offered this on the vine program in return for my honest review. I was a bit sceptical about this..and looks can be deceiving.as if used correctly this can open jars I’m beginning to suffer with arthritis in my hands so for me to now open jars is getting more and more difficult. With this item it can literally open any size jar or bottle..As the strap can be made larger or smaller very very easily. Observably this does have to be used correctly otherwise it won’t work..as I found out. The metal bit holding the coloured rope has a bit of weight in it, and the lip part can also be used for opening cans. Very well made. My only concern is the price.. would I pay the price advertised no I don’t think I would.as I’m sure there is cheaper ones out there. Overall..very good.it works great. But overpriced

There’s always that jar, the one that you know will be hard to open. For me it was a certain brand of pickled onions from Home Bargains… You know you can open it, but the sudden jerk whilst it’s against your chest means the juice goes everywhere. No more with this little beastie. It’s much better than the silicone covers that allow purchase on the lid, it grips but also gives you a mechanical advantage. You loop the webbing around the lid, with the small spur facing the direction of travel. As you turn it tightens up and digs in a bit (protected by the webbing) to open virtually anything. You can open paint tins and bottle caps too. It’s a multi-purpose pry bar for the kitchen. Being quite small it fits in a drawer easily. I don’t care it’s pink, my masculinity has already been damaged by needing this tool 🙂

This is so handy to use to open jars especially for older people that struggle with their hands.
Lsb23 –
This lid and leverage jar/bottle/tin opener is simple and very sturdy. Strong enough to open the toughest jars but still gentle enough to open toothpaste tubes. The handle is made of thick steel but is still lightweight, t has a bottle opener at one end, a clever hook thingy to open ring pull tins and even a slip lip to remove lids off golden syrup. It has a nylon strap with rubber running through the webbing making it non slip and having a great grip. I’ve lost the use of one arm so have been rely on other people, namely my son to open these things for me, but if he’s away then I’m stuck. But not now. While it is still a little fiddly to use with one hand, it still makes it possible for me to open tins and jars while on my own. Overall a great quality jar opener that has enabled me to do these small tasks myself. Something others take for granted but a revelation for those of us with weakness and dexterity issues.
AFewWobblySteps –
Anyone with dexterity/grip issues or weakness in the hands like myself knows just how frustrating it can be; I can struggle just getting into a bottled water at times, this strap does actually work (to my surprise) and it’s got a lot of adjustment so works on larger lids/jars too. I find it works best on bottle tops as their lids are grooved so it has extra friction though. Design wise it’s very simple, I do wish it had a locking mechanism similar to that of a tape measure just to stop the loop expanding as you’re turning it as it does mean you may have to tighten it back up to finish the job but otherwise it’s a good functional product, if rather pricey.

This is a really well made jar opener but it has a few flaws and the price is fairly high for what it does. The quality is excellent and will probably last for years and I love the colours too. It grips onto the jar lids and gives you kind of a lever to pull to open it. I usually use a tablespoon and hit the lid on the top and around the sides. It releases the vacuum inside the jar. The lid comes off so easily that a toddler could do it. You don’t need much grip on the jar that way either but with this you need to grip the jar. If you have one hand that’s not brilliant you would struggle to hold the jar and use this tool with the other. I do like the tin opening tool on it as it’s very handy. Overall, I think it’s a good quality and useful tool but it’s a bit high on the price side for me when I use a spoon and it’s free.

This is a simple device made to help people remove the lids from containers that are too securely closed. Alternatively if you live in a house with other people (Like a Uni Flat) it is an excellent device for doing up containers so tight no one else can open them to help themselves to the contents! It is extremely easy to use, you simply slip the ribbon round the lid and use the leverage of the spur to turn it, job done, easy-peasy, Robert is your mother brother! (Bob’s your uncle) and the jar is open. Great for young and old alike and this will stop my partners infernal habit of saying “Oh, I must have loosened it” when I undo it, she can now do it herself and leave me the heck alone! If you are getting on or like me cant grip as well as you used to this is an essential kitchen tool! HTH

I ordered this for my mother in law as she suffers from arthritis, this gadget really makes it easy to open jars. Comfortable to hold and works really well.
Mrs M –
I love this jar opener. For some time I have found it increasingly difficult to open bottles and jars. Increasingly, jar lids have a tapered rather than a flat edge and my Brabantia metal opener simply cannot grip properly. I also find it difficult to put enough pressure on the handles of the Brabantia opener used on larger lids. No such problems with this opener. The webbing band has rubberised stitching in rows down the middle and these are fantastic at gripping any shape of lid. The metal lip then puts the pressure on to open the lid without me having to. It is so easy. I have really been struggling with my Sodastream carafe lid which has a fairly sharp plastic rim on the lid and it really hurts my hand if the lid is tight. This opener grips the sides of the lid and twists it off effortlessly without damaging it. It really is fantastic. I can also open bottle caps and treacle lids. My old Brabantia opener has been consigned to the bin! I most definitely recommend it.

I got this for my mum to open jars and realized that it’s versatile you can use it as a leverage to open lids and lids if all sizes. It is lightweight and easy to use. You can just Hang it on the kitchen wall and doesn’t up any space. It does actually make opening jars a lot easier just just loop around and turn. And the leverage is rigid. All in all a well made product.

This lid & leverage adjustable strap jar opener has a very simple but effective design. Arrived with the user guide, which is easy to follow. It is great opener as it fits around objects of any shape, what is very useful and practical. I’m able now to open/to loosen or to tighten jar lids on my own without damaging them and without help from my partner. Very useful and clever tool with super grip. I found it very helpful in the household. There is a code to scan on the packaging which shows the variety of uses for this opener. More information about this item can also be viewed on the company webpage. Excellent quality, seems sturdy, durable and built to last. A bit pricey, but definitely great addition to the kitchen equipment. Must have in every kitchen in my opinion as makes many tasks faster and easier. I can open jars now fast with minimal effort. Multifunctional opener, works as it should, great quality, so I would happily recommend it.
Monty Marwood –
This little strap does exactly what it’s supposed to and helps open jars effortlessly. It’s easy to use and very strong and well-designed so I would definitely recommend it as a handy gadget to have around the kitchen.
Susan Random –
This is a really handy piece of kit – it can open lids and prise bottle tops off etc – it’s pretty ingenious really. The nylon webbing is lined with grippy rubberised thread to form a strong grip. The metal part is pleasantly heavy enough to last. Recommended.
Kelly2468uk –
This is something you didn’t know you needed or in my case I didn’t know it even existed. I have the other kind of bottle opens but nothing on this design. It has a steel handle and a nylon strap ,there is rubber woven in which gives great grip. Thus can open anything up to 12cm diameter. All types of lids and bottles . It also has a bottle opener and can pop lids of tin of paint. My partner got excited when he saw it as he thought it was a tool for him as apparently it be great for helping him with car he rebuilding .This is suitable to be used by left or right handed people and is really simple to use . This Is lightweight but made to last I’d definitely recommend even if you don’t think you need it

When I received the is product I did suspect whether it could work as it was just fabric strap with a metal handle. It happened I had a jar hard to open. I would have asked my husband’s help normally but I tried this strap instead this time. I followed the instruction and put the strap around the jar lid then pull the strap tight. The lid was open immediately. It is so effective tool! The price £22 looks high but it is worth the value.

Works very well, but one has to use in the right direction.

I struggle to get it to open jars – not sure if I’m not able to pull tight enough but it slips round. The other features like bottle opener etc are great and work well.
